June Update from Dr. Bains’ Office

Dear Neighbors,

It’s budget season here in Sacramento, and once again, I voted NO to stand up for my community.

This time, the NO vote was for a budget bill that would result in an $8 billion tax increase. Not only would this be bad for businesses throughout the state, but it does so at the expense of other better options.

That’s a NO from me and always will be.

This vote is the latest, but surely not the last, example of my inability to support policies that will negatively impact my community.

In other important news, my Kern University of California medical school proposal continues to move through the legislative process. A strong coalition of communities, businesses, medical professionals, and educators is helping drive this important piece of legislation.

Doctor's Note

Fireworks

It’s time to celebrate America’s birthday, and I can’t wait for all the fun and family-friendly events surrounding the July 4thholiday.

As a doctor, it's also important to remind folks that fireworks are great to look at but incredibly dangerous when not handled by a professional pyrotechnician. I have seen too many missing fingers, severe burns, and people fully or partially blinded by improper use of fireworks. Not to mention, there is also the danger of burning down someone else’s or your own house.

This Fourth of July, leave the hard work to the professionals, sit back, and enjoy the show.

In good health,
