February Update from Dr. Bains' Office

Fighting for your healthcare

Press Conference against Medicaid cuts

This week, I stood with veterans, healthcare workers, retirees, laborers, and my colleagues to warn Congressional Republicans of the dire consequences of defunding Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. More than half of our Kern Community is enrolled in Medicaid, one of the highest rates in the state and in the country. Everyone affected could lose their ability to see a doctor. I’m here to state loud and clear – BACK OFF – my community’s healthcare should never be on the table.

Doctor's Note

Measles

This recent article about a measles outbreak in Texas is a warning sign. Getting vaccinated against measles protects you, your family, and those around you from this highly contagious disease. While the number of cases currently reported in California remains small, we experienced our own outbreak less than ten years ago.

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) recommends that children receive two doses of the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccine—first at 12-15 months and again at 4-6 years. Adults who have not been vaccinated should also get the MMR vaccine, especially before traveling internationally.
